David Rousculp, a seasoned professional with over 45 years of experience in the funeral industry
David Rousculp, a seasoned professional with over 45 years of experience in the funeral industry, marks a significant milestone this year as he celebrates his 10th anniversary at Harper’s Community Funeral Home in New Haven. Stepping into the role of general manager and funeral director a decade ago, David inherited the legacy of excellence established by Greg Harper upon his retirement in 2014.
Teaming up with Tony Colson, who acquired the business from Mr. Harper, David has been committed to upholding the highest standards of funeral service in Allen County. His journey in the funeral profession began at the age of 16, igniting a lifelong passion that led him to pursue a degree in mortuary science from the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science.
Renowned as one of the most experienced funeral professionals in the country, David’s expertise extends beyond traditional funeral practices. He is widely recognized for his exceptional skills as an embalmer and cosmetic artist, ensuring dignified final farewells for every family served.
In addition to his dedication to funeral service, David is a multifaceted individual with diverse interests and talents. A prolific playwright, he has penned two acclaimed stage productions, “My Dead Clown” and “The Sexton,” both of which have garnered national recognition after being staged in Fort Wayne.
Beyond the realms of theater, David is deeply involved in the local community, serving as the living historian of General “Mad” Anthony Wayne for the General “Mad” Anthony Wayne Organization of Fort Wayne. Known affectionately as “Cricket” from his radio show at Cricket’s Jazz Club, he shares his passion for classic jazz with listeners on WELT LP 95.7 FM, Fort Wayne, and WNHE LP 101.3 FM, New Haven.
This year, David is directing “Flanagan’s Wake” for the third time, a delightfully interactive play staged at Harper’s Community Funeral Home. Notably, the proceeds from the last production in 2022 contributed $6,000 to The Shepherd House for veterans, underscoring David’s commitment to giving back to the community.
Outside of his professional pursuits, David is also a dedicated beekeeper, reflecting his deep connection to nature and the environment. Together with his wife Patricia, who also works at the funeral home, they reside above the establishment, embodying the essence of a compassionate, family-owned business.
Looking ahead, David affirms his steadfast commitment to serving the Allen County, Indiana community for many years to come. “I want people to think of us as a mom-and-pop funeral home, always there for you when you need us,” he emphasizes, encapsulating the ethos of Harper’s Community Funeral Home under his stewardship. As he continues his journey in funeral service, David remains a pillar of strength and support for those in their time of need.

David Rousculp is not only honored but also thrilled that WELT 95.7 FM Community Radio has taken a keen interest in his show, extending its reach to the eager ears of the Fort Wayne community. Cricket’s Jazz Club, apart from its musical allure, combines elements of poetry and intriguing jazz trivia, making it a delightful auditory journey for listeners.
Allen County Indiana and Beyond
Moreover, David is eagerly looking forward to expanding his horizons beyond radio broadcasting. Thanks to the studio’s generosity, which provides free access to residents of Allen County, he intends to explore the realms of television and film as well. This promising endeavor opens up new avenues for creativity and artistic expression within the community.
